The pathway along the Royal Canal from Broombridge LUAS and train station to Pelletstown train station, extending up to Ashtown train station, is in dire need of public street lighting. The absence of sufficient lighting along this vital route poses a significant safety risk to residents, commuters, and anyone who traverses this area on a daily basis. 

The recent disturbing incident, where a 26-year-old male was attacked by a gang of nine teenagers, highlights the urgent need for action. This attack is not an isolated event, and the darkness makes it easy for malicious activities to go undetected. This lack of safety prevents people from feeling secure as they commute to and from work, partake in daily errands, or enjoy the canal's natural beauty.

In our rapidly developing urban environments, public safety must be a priority. Installing proper lighting along the Royal Canal will not only act as a deterrent to crime but will also encourage more people to use this route actively, as it provides a scenic corridor that promotes walking and cycling.

The benefits of this intervention extend beyond safety—improved lighting will enrich the community's quality of life, encourage outdoor activity, and increase social interactions. This initiative requires a collaborative effort from local councils, transport authorities, and community leaders.
