Require Montclair to Remodel Local Parks for Health and Comfort of Residents
The Issue
I am a lifelong resident of Montclair and a parent, whose childhood memories closely associate with the parks here. Today, as a parent, I want to experience the same joys and create equally fond memories with my children. However, the lack of suitable infrastructure at our parks is hampering this cherished tradition. I'm astounded that we have to leave the city's bounds to find more age- and convenience-friendly facilities elsewhere, depriving our kids of the natural neighborhood connections that parks traditionally foster.
Our main concerns are the lack of shaded areas, tables in these parks, and inadequate water refill stations. The absence of sufficient shaded areas force us to squint in the burning summers, robbing us of the pleasure of observing our children at play. This also poses health risks as prolonged exposure to sun can lead to health issues like sunburns and heatstroke. Furthermore, some of our children have allergies or sensitive skin, making it challenging for them to sit on the grass, and lack of tables only adds to the discomfort.
The shortage of water refill stations too is concerning. In a time when we are encouraging the use of reusable water bottles for environmental reasons, having limited water refill stations puts a constraint on this sustainable practice.
Lastly, our kids' playgrounds are in dire need of shade tarps. This is an absolute necessity for our children's safety, as harmful UV rays can cause skin damage and other related complications.
Every child deserves safe, comfortable, and accessible play spaces, regardless of where they live. We urge the City of Montclair to take these concerns into account and remodel the parks. Our community counts on you.
Please join me in urging the City of Montclair to reconsider their park amenities and make our communal spaces more family-friendly. Sign this petition today!
