Require legislation for effective police management of community safety

To address this, we urge our Government to enact comprehensive legislation empowering the police Foprce to manage threats effectively while respecting the fundamental rights of individuals. Such legislation should provide clear guidelines and resources for proactive measures that law enforcement can utilise.
Essentially, the Separation of Powers must be strengthened to ensure no future Government can breach the safety net of the Separation of Powers, which ensures the Government, although entitled to provide Policy to Police, should never be given the power to dorect operational response to policy as they did during COVID.
By doing so, we can ensure that police have the necessary tools and authority to act swiftly and justly, preventing any infringement on community welfare.
Moreover, such reform should include safeguards that uphold civil liberties and promote transparency, ensuring actions are always accountable and in line with democratic principles. Law enforcement agencies should also receive enhanced training, focusing on community engagement and non-discriminatory practices that foster trust and cooperation between the police and the public.
