Require landlords to accept applicants with previous convictions that are non-violent

The Issue

Housing greatly reduces the likelihood of recidivism, reduces the likelihood of return-to-use of substances, and allows for the inclusion of economic opportunities such as employment. Many individuals with non-violent convictions face significant barriers when trying to secure housing, which can perpetuate cycles of instability and hinder their valued reintegration into society. This lack of stability not only affects their chances for successful reentry but also impacts community safety and economic growth.

Housing discrimination contributes to a cycle of marginalization and oppression that ultimately impacts us all. We urge lawmakers in Oregon to require landlords to accept applicants with previous non-violent convictions. By doing so, we can foster a more inclusive society that supports rehabilitation and reduces repeat offenses. Please sign this petition to help create fairer housing opportunities for all Oregonians.
