Year after year, my children have faced a difficult choice—a choice that should never have to be made. As a family that values both our faith and the importance of being part of a team, it has been increasingly challenging to balance these aspects of our lives. Unfortunately, this dilemma has extended beyond just our experience. It has trickled down from high school sports to the elementary level, where children are still forming their fundamental values and habits.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) and Kentucky State Little League continue to schedule games and events on Sunday mornings. This practice forces youth to either forgo their spiritual commitments or miss out on being a positive team member. Our children deserve the opportunity to participate in both their religious communities and extracurricular activities without having to choose between them.

Numerous studies highlight the importance of community worship as a positive influence on youth mental health.  There is a proven correlation between youth attending religious services and better mental health outcomes. By holding sports events on Sunday mornings, we inadvertently undermine an activity that promotes emotional well-being for young people.

While promoting physical activities and teamwork through sports is invaluable, we believe these benefits can coexist with children's spiritual needs. If games and events were held after 1pm on Sundays, families like ours could comfortably participate in church services while allowing children to compete and bond with their peers.

We understand that scheduling is complicated, but the long-lasting impact of forcing youth to choose between important aspects of their lives is far more significant. By signing this petition, you are urging KHSAA and the Kentucky State Little League  (specifically All Stars) to reconsider their schedules and put our children's holistic well-being at the forefront. Help us strive for a balanced approach that respects both spiritual and athletic development.

Please sign this petition to require KHSAA and Kentucky State Little League to refrain from scheduling games and events before 1pm on Sundays (or not on Sundays). Together, we can ensure our children don't have to choose between their faith and their team, fostering a healthier and more inclusive environment for all.
