Itโs been a week since KernBHRS discontinued insurance coverage for our clients at Cornerstone. Fortunately, the anticipated stress has been mitigated through ongoing, trust-building conversations, reassuring our clients that they can continue in our program despite uncertainties.
We recently learned that the Department of Managed Healthcare lacks authority over KernBHRS, leading us to file for state hearings for each client to secure their continued participation in our program.
The Medi-Cal system, particularly the Drug Medi-Cal program, exhibits ๐ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐ฅ๐๐๐ค ๐จ๐ ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ compared to private insurance. State legislation extensively regulates private insurers to ensure quality care, but similar accountability measures are missing for state-run programs. This disparity may contribute to the rising substance abuse rates. The focus seems skewed towards maintaining statistics rather than enhancing patient-centered care.
Despite our efforts to address service discrepancies with the county and the Drug Medi-Cal program last week, the response has been limited to vague promises of investigation. This lack of substantive communication underscores the need for more rigorous oversight.
I will address these issues at the County Supervisors meeting, presenting over 3,000 petition signatures to highlight the urgent need for reform. This demonstration aims to advocate for increased accountability and better oversight within the Medi-Cal system.
