I have illustrated the potential traffic issue with commercial development of Jetta Point. Please let me know if you disagree that the Watermark entrance and parking lot would become a traffic bottleneck. There will be u-turns on 434, which will further impede traffic. I hope that commercial investors, commissioners and FLDOT are considering this potential challenge to SR434 and 417, already sensitive to rush hour traffic heading eastbound toward Oviedo on a single lane.

The western and southern boundaries of Jetta Point Park date back to 1886 when Dr. Henry Foster paid $5,000 to have a 19 mile stretch of railroad built from Sanford to Oviedo. He grew oranges and didn't want to pay to have his oranges shipped on a steam boat from Lake Jessup to the railroad terminal in Sanford. It's possible to see the old railroad markers along the trail today. For example, in Tuscawilla there is a marker with "782" on the front, which means 782 miles to Richmond, Virginia. However, on the back, the number "14" designates 14 miles to Sanford. The portion of today's Cross Seminole Trail from downtown Oviedo to Layer Elementary exists because Dr. Foster wanted lower cost shipping! Yes, I'm a local history nerd, but here's the relevant point. Some of Jetta Point Park may not been disturbed since 1886, or at least since 1940 when aerial photos prove it. It's a unique place, quiet, covered with towering pine trees, and near to lakes abundant in fish for baby eaglets, hence why bald eagles selected it for their nesting site. Eagles return to good nesting sites. I want Winter Springs to be a place where my kids would want to return to live one day.
