Require Indoor Air Quality standards be met in workplaces, schools, health and social care
The Issue
We want the Government to set rules on Indoor Air Quality and infection control in workplaces, schools and health and social care settings, to prevent and control airborne infections.
We are asking for ventilation and filtration requirements that maintain high Indoor Air Quality standards, using CO2 levels of < 800 - 1000 ppm as a proxy measure, and with monitoring and inspection to ensure compliance.
Covid and many other serious infectious diseases are spread by airborne aerosols. Improving indoor air quality is a key measure that reduces transmission resulting in safer indoor spaces and lower numbers of infections in the population.
Much research points to the risk of long-term damage through repeated Covid infections; teachers, healthcare and care workers having amongst the highest prevalence of sickness and Long Covid. This is already a serious burden on the nation's health and economy.
High Indoor Air Quality standards are needed not only to reduce the spread of Covid and other common airborne diseases but also to be better prepared for further pandemics.
