The Issue

Fed Up with Digital Deception
I am tired of wasting hours of my life swiping through profiles, only to realize I’ve been talking to a "catfish." If you use dating or social apps, you know this frustration intimately. We are constantly forced to second-guess if the person on our screen is real or if they are using photos from a decade ago.

This isn't just annoying—it’s a massive drain on our time and mental energy. We deserve a digital world where we can trust what we see.

Why are you uploading a photo to social media later than when you took it? Don't save your dopamine hits for later.

Proposed Solution: No More Gallery Uploads
I am calling on Apple and Google to take responsibility for the apps they distribute. We want them to mandate a simple rule for every identity-based app: Profile photos must be taken using the in-app camera.

By removing the option to upload photos from a camera roll, we can:

Ensure Recency: You will know that the person you're looking at looks like that right now.
Stop Scammers: It becomes nearly impossible for fake accounts to use stolen or highly edited images.
Save Your Time: Imagine the hours you’ll get back when you no longer have to vet every profile for authenticity. You can focus on real connections instead of detective work.
Proof That It Works: The Grindr Example
We know this is possible because we’ve already seen it in action. The "Taken on Grindr" feature shows exactly how it’s done. When a user takes a photo within the app, it receives a verification badge and a timestamp (like "Just Now").

Apple and Google should require app developers to standardize profile verification across all social media platforms, given the prevalence of scams.

We shouldn't have to settle for a digital environment built on deception. I am asking you to join me in demanding better. Let’s urge these tech giants to prioritize our safety and our time over the convenience of scammers.

Sign this petition. Let’s make real-time authenticity the new standard for the apps we use every day.
