The Issue

We are required to show ID to register a child in school and prove our relationship to them. No reason any child should be taken into a hotel room without the relationship between the adult and child being verified. Protect our children from potential harm and exploitation by implementing this crucial precaution.

Every year, thousands of minors fall victim to the horrifying world of sex trafficking. Hotels and motels, sometimes unknowingly, serve as venues where traffickers exploit vulnerable youth. These environments, often less regulated than other establishments, provide anonymity for traffickers and make it challenging to identify and rescue victims. This risk is present everywhere, including in Arizona, where we cherish our community and its safety.

Currently, hotels do not require verification of the relationship between adults and minors staying in their accommodations, leaving room for predators to exploit this loophole. We believe that implementing a mandate requiring state or federal ID for all minors, as well as proof of relationship between the adult and child, can significantly reduce the risk of sex trafficking.

Other regions have seen success with implementing similar measures. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, heightened hotel regulations and awareness can lead to increased reports of trafficking and subsequent rescues. By requiring verification, we're not only deterring potential traffickers but also encouraging hotel staff to be more vigilant and aware.

We urge the local authorities and hotel managements in Arizona, to adopt this measure as a standard practice. Protecting our children is a community responsibility, and together, we can create a safer environment for everyone.

Sign this petition to demand that all hotels and motels in Arizona require ID verification for minors and validation of adult-child relationships. Let's take this vital step toward safeguarding our community's future.
