Require High-Quality Night View Cameras in All Scottish Nightclubs

The Issue

My name is Aimee and I am a 20 year old university student. I was spiked on a night out in Glasgow on Thursday, 14th December 2023 and this petition is designed to advocate for the requirement of high-quality surveillance throughout all nightclubs in Scotland.

After being put out of the club on my own and bouncers shoving my friend back inside, I was eventually reunited with her. I then collapsed on the street, took a seizure and my friend and a passer by had to hold me as I was choking on my vomit. Paramedics and nurses recognised my condition as the result of a spiking incident. However, despite me being unresponsive for over 8 hours, I was labelled as being “just intoxicated” by a junior doctor. 6 months on I have now received lab results from the police, which indicate that I was in fact spiked with Ketamine and was not “just intoxicated”.

I have been told by police there is nothing they can do as the security footage is poor quality and that “you should watch your drink in future”.

Crimes such as spiking are not being detected due to the inadequate quality of surveillance footage. This is unacceptable and puts countless individuals at risk every night.

We need to require night view cameras, held to a high standard, across all nightclubs in Scotland. Enhanced camera quality will help law enforcement identify perpetrators and deter criminal activity. Sadly this is becoming a regular occurrence across Scotland and MUST end now.

So please sign this petition to demand better safety measures for everyone enjoying a night out.
