Require Government Verification for All Websites and Start Fighting Cybercrime on a Globa
The Issue
I have been personally affected by scams that run rampant on unverified websites, causing tremendous distress and leading to the loss of time, resources, and trust. This issue is not uncommon as numerous people across the globe face similar predicaments. It is high time that we demand the instigation of government verification for all websites to ensure online safety for all users.
According to a report by the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), internet-enabled crimes and scams have seen a horrifying increase. For instance, in 2019 alone, the IC3 received 467,361 complaints with reported losses exceeding $3.5 billion (FBI, 2019). This amplifies the pressing need for an immediate resolution to this grievous issue.
The solution we propose is the government verification of all websites to ensure their authenticity. With this measure in place, government-backed verification will serve as a firewall against scammers and fraudulent parties. The implementation of this preventive measure will ensure a decrease in the rate of scams, thereby offering a more sheltered online surfing experience for all internet users.
Additionally, the United Nation's should establish an internet security team that is on the job 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to fight crimes like this on a global scale. This new agency should monitor all internet activity to prevent cybercrime such as scams and terrorism.
There is a dire need for the relevant authorities to step in and offer solutions that ensure the internet remains a safe space for all. By signing this petition, you lend your voice to the fight against scams, and appeal for the government to enact legislation requiring all websites to be verified. Help us steer this change in the right direction. Kindly sign, share, and stand up for safer internet experiences for everyone.
