Require FWACC to have wildlife pros evaluate wild animal intakes prior to euthanasia

Require FWACC to have wildlife pros evaluate wild animal intakes prior to euthanasia
The Issue
Every year, thousands of wild animals are taken in by municipal animal control services across the country. In Fort Wayne, our local Animal Care and Control holds a tremendous amount of responsibility in handling these creatures, which range from raccoons to foxes, and occasionally even larger mammals. However, many of these animals face euthanasia without receiving a thorough examination by a professional wildlife rehabilitator or wildlife veterinarian.
It is imperative that we demand a change in the policy that currently allows for such irreversible decisions to be made without comprehensive assessments. Currently, the lack of mandatory expert evaluations results in missed opportunities to rehabilitate and potentially release healthy animals back into the wild, where they contribute to the biodiversity and ecological balance of our environment.
The critical nature of this issue cannot be overstated. Wildlife health experts possess specialized knowledge and skills necessary to accurately diagnose illnesses, injuries, or behavioral issues that may otherwise lead to an unnecessary loss of life. These professionals can determine whether an animal is suffering from a treatable condition or illness, thereby allowing for appropriate medical intervention where applicable. Successful rehabilitation stories are the foundation of thriving ecosystems and are a testament to the importance of giving animals a fighting chance.
Moreover, partnering with licensed wildlife rehabilitators and veterinarians not only ensures ethical treatment of local wildlife but upholds the community's responsibility towards its environment and natural resources. We must urge Fort Wayne's Animal Care and Control Division to incorporate these crucial evaluations as standard procedure before making irreversible decisions about the fate of these animals.
By signing this petition, we can work together to mandate that the humane and scientifically-sound treatment of wild animals is prioritized. Let's ensure that every wild creature that crosses paths with Fort Wayne's Animal Care and Control has the opportunity for a second chance, guided by expert hands and compassionate hearts. Please sign this petition to support the implementation of mandatory, professional evaluations for all wild animals taken in by local authorities, safeguarding their futures and the health of our natural world. Let's make a stand for more compassionate and responsible wildlife management.
