Require Full-Time Body Cams for Utah County Law Enforcement

Require Full-Time Body Cams for Utah County Law Enforcement

The Issue

My son was involved in a questionable situation with Utah County law enforcement in Feb of 2020. I feel that excessive force was used to detain and cuff my son. It was frustrating to learn there was no body cam footage for me to draw conclusions from. In light of current events, many of my black & POC friends and family have come forward with experiences of being profiled or treated harshly because of the color of their skin. While I am not lumping all law enforcement together and saying they would all react the same, I believe Systemic Racism is alive and well and does happen in Utah, we need to do better. There are many that have been affected by police brutality or excessive force that do not have a voice. I believe that cops being required to wear body cams while on duty will bring more accountability and transparency for all involved when an incident occurs. Required Body Cams will not solve all of the issues between Police and Minorities in Utah. But, it is a step in the right direction. PLEASE SIGN!!!

There is currently no body cameras required for:

*Springville Police Department

*Utah County Sheriffs Department - which is contracted with Vineyard, Woodland Hills, Elk Ridge and Eagle Mountain.
