I wish to share a painful personal experience to underline the importance of this petition. In the winter of 1999, during my pregnancy, I was living in a rented apartment at 96 Aylmer St owned by CJ. His behaviour towards me was marked by discrimination, manipulation, harassment, and threats. The stress caused by this experience resulted in the heartbreaking loss of my unborn child. 

Later, I was crucially affected by the irresponsible actions of another company, NVAR. They were the source of a widespread bed bug infestation in our city, leading to continuous battles over several months. Eventually, I was unjustly evicted on a bitterly cold day of January 17 with a daughter and a pet.

Unfortunately, my story is not isolated, which is why I'm urging the legislative bodies in Peterborough, ON, Canada, to take urgent action. I, along with countless other tenants, demand that all landlords and businesses fully disclose how many people have died in their rented homes or buildings. We also believe in establishing a contract with the landlord and tenant board, ensuring that all rules and policies are strictly adhered to while renting a property.

In addition, we propose a system where the landlords are mandated to determine the rent amount based on regular property inspections. This will contribute to controlling housing costs, likely reducing homelessness rates.

Finally, we urge lawmakers to officially recognize dogs as family pets, acknowledging their role in providing security to their homes and owners.

This call to action is more than just a paper exercise; it's an appeal for justice, security, and transparency for all tenants. Sign this petition, and let's make a difference together.                                                                   I now have a third story to tell a false call to police about my residence lead to my third time becoming homeless on this past December 11th.  This false call was acted upon by the police a very serious one but I cannot understand why as I do not have a criminal record of any kind.  The day the police came to my residence my daughter saw them and never came back to me also the police left the front door open for hours and one of my twin mancoon cats barely a year old Molly Bear got outside which she was not used to and got hit by a car that day the police call to my residence was proven false but my landlord's believed it to be true and filed an application against me as it turned out the judicator sided with them so I had no choice but to wait for locks to be changed.  During the few weeks of waiting I had secured an apartment with deposit down for last month's rent but because of confusion concerning the first month to be paid a government organization made a decision which caused me to be homeless on moving day.  The next day I was locked out of the residence and had only 72 hours to get my belongings the landlord only let me in at first to get my cat Simba but he did give me a two hour window to get my belongings after I could make arrangements for a truck but when I entered the residence I discovered that the house was broken into and most of my stuff was gone.  The landlord did not keep my belongings safe.  Also my friend's were to take care of Simba but they lost him now he is homeless as well.  I do not understand why landlord's are always winning against me I was taught to fight for my right's but I have lost every time with the landlord and tenant board.  Is it for the landlord's only I wonder.  I have yet another story to add my friend Christine opened her home to me and while I was staying there she passed away March 11,2024 and because I was not on the lease of her apartment I had only 30 days till I have to leave.  Within a few weeks of my friend passing the landlord violated the 30 day rule and called police saying I was a squatter and as a result I was not able to get my native American man's ashes.  She was protected by police and they both violated the landlord and tenant board law of 30  days. I am upset greatly as I was not permitted to retrieve any of my belongings or his ashes.  Laws are put in place to be followed but no one is following them.  Hopefully in future this will change.
