Require Fair Religious Representation in Public Schools, or None at All

Require Fair Religious Representation in Public Schools, or None at All
The Issue
As someone who believes strongly in religious equality, I find recent developments concerning religious display in public schools concerning. The state superintendent of education in Louisiana Cade Brumley, is imposing the display of the 10 Commandments in all public schools (this could start a development of it being imposed in other states, hense taking action today) Unquestionably, this move does not reflect the diverse religious beliefs of our community, and threatens to suffocate those who believe differently under the banner of Christian indoctrination. It is crucial to acknowledge that not everyone in Louisiana, or indeed in America, is Christian.
This proposed mandate fails to consider the vibrant mix of religious beliefs held by Louisiana's populace. This includes those who believe in the 7 Tenants of Satanism, the Wiccan Rede, or the 7 Factors of Enlightenment of Buddhism, among others. Our country thrives on its rich tapestry of cultural and religious diversity. The Pew Research Center estimates that as much as 30% of adults in Louisiana identify with non-Christian faiths or have no religious affiliation at all. It is unconscionable to neglect such a significant proportion of our population.
Alternatively, we could seek to uphold the separation of church and state, as indicated in the US Constitution’s First Amendment. This would mean that no school should display any religious commandments, tenants, or followings. This ensures that public schools remain a neutral space where all children, regardless of their religious background, can comfortably learn and grow.
We call on Cade Brumley to either consider equal representation of all religions or refrain from showcasing any religious display in public schools. This is to protect our diverse religious populace and reaffirm our dedication to religious equality and separation of church and state. We urge you to support this action. Stand up for religious equality and fairness in our public schools. Sign the petition today.
