The Issue

As a concerned parent in Sumner County, I am witnessing firsthand the impact of rapid residential development on our public schools. My child is among the many students who will soon face the challenge of learning in an overcrowded classroom. As developers continue to build new subdivisions in our area, the student population is increasing at a rate that our schools simply cannot accommodate.

The surge in new housing developments has not been matched with adequate funding for our local schools. This discrepancy is resulting in larger class sizes, strained resources, and a diminished quality of education for all students. Smaller classrooms lead to more individualized attention and a better educational experience, something every child deserves.

Let's demand that developers who profit from our growing community also contribute their fair share to the infrastructure that supports it. By requiring developers to allocate a portion of their profits to fund local schools, we can ensure that educational facilities grow sustainably alongside new housing projects.

In other parts of the country, similar measures have successfully balanced growth with educational needs. For example, some school districts require impact fees from developers, which ensure they contribute to expanding school capacity. Implementation of similar policies in Sumner County could alleviate the burden on our schools.

I urge community members and local officials to come together to advocate for this change. Let's hold developers accountable for the role they play in community growth and push for policies that protect the future of our children's education.

Please sign this petition to support the requirement for developers in Sumner County to fund the crucial expansion and development of our schools. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a brighter, more sustainable educational environment for our children.
