I am a single mother, struggling with the demands of work and childcare. My situation is not unique - there are millions like me who face the same challenges every day. We are expected to have "open availability" for employment, often leading us to work 10-12 hours a day. This is beyond what most childcare services cover, which is usually only 8 hours.

This expectation of open availability discriminates against mothers esp single mothers who need to balance their jobs with caring for their children. It's not just about us; it's about our children too. They deserve quality time with their parents, something that excessive working hours can severely limit.

Furthermore, companies should not be allowed to require mothers to work overtime unless we specifically agree to it. Our time is precious - both for our own well-being and that of our children.
