The issue

To the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Mount Gambier,

We, the residents of Mount Gambier, are asking Council to require clear signage after chemical spraying in our public spaces, parks, playgrounds, footpaths, and gutters where our families and pets spend time.

We're asking for signage that:

Is placed at main entrances to any treated area
Clearly shows what chemical was used and when it was applied
Stays up for at least 24 hours after spraying (or longer if the product recommends it)
Why this matters to us:

As parents, pet owners, and regular users of our public spaces, we're worried about exposure to herbicides and pesticides when we don't even know they've been applied. Right now, there's no way for us to know if a park was just sprayed this morning or if the grass along our walking path has fresh chemicals on it.

This isn't about stopping Council from maintaining our public area, we understand that's necessary.

We just want to know when and where chemicals have been used so we can make informed choices. A parent might choose a different playground for the afternoon. A dog owner might pick another route for their walk. It's about having the information we need to keep our families safe.

We've seen other councils do this successfully, and it seems like a straightforward way to show residents that our safety matters. It's not complicated or expensive, just simple signs that let us know what's been done and when.

We're asking Council to consider this policy and put it to a vote soon.

Thank you for listening to our concerns.
