Require clear HRT warnings for pet safety

The Issue

For the past six months, I was applying Estrogen gel on my thighs as part of my Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Always careful, I applied it well away from my miniature male dachshund, and ensured that I was clothed before he sat on my lap. Despite all precautions, my little companion began showing signs of hormone exposure—he developed enlarged nipples, a condition I later learned could be linked to accidental exposure to Estrogen.

To my shock, the warnings on the medication leaflet regarding pet safety were minimal; just a small note about washing if it contacts pets and no definitive alert of potential hormonal impacts on animals. This critical information was buried and easy to overlook in the fine print, leaving pet owners like myself uninformed of the potential risks.

It's imperative that pharmaceutical companies and regulatory bodies ensure that medications such as estrogen gels come with clear, prominent warnings about the potential dangers of accidental pet exposure. This should include the risk of hormonal impacts and specific instructions on how to effectively prevent it.

We need more precise guidelines and more visible warnings. Whether it's bold lettering or a stand-alone section, pet owners must be informed thoroughly to protect our beloved pets from harmful side effects.

Please sign this petition to mandate pharmaceutical companies and the relevant health authorities to make these critical changes in labelling and instructions. By doing so, we can help safeguard our furry friends from unnecessary harm and stress. Every signature counts for a safer and more informed world for pets and their owners.
