Require BBC to Allocate 50% of Strictly's Blackpool Special Tickets to Local FY Residents
The Issue
Like many in Blackpool, my family are massive fans of Strictly Come Dancing. I grew up watching and enjoying Strictly. It soon became a tradition to go meet the stars during their visit to Blackpool.
Yet, despite our community playing host to this spectacular event every year, we have never had the privilege of witnessing it in person. This echoes with many fellow 'FY' residents who've shared with me their experiences of not being able to secure tickets, only to learn they've gone to those far removed from our locality, namely London.
The past 3 years alone, I have not met a single Blackpool resident who has gained tickets. Upon talking to friends, they also went on to say themselves and their friends have been unsuccessful every year. So why is it, it is so easy for London residents to get tickets to MULTIPLE shows but locals can't even get them to the Blackpool Special?
Blackpool has a rich entertainment history therefore as residents, we hold pride in our town hosting such a significant event. However, our inclusion should go beyond the mere geographic – we deserve to form an integral part of the audience. The current distribution system seems heavily skewed towards individuals outside of Blackpool who also have opportunities to attend shows at the London studio.
This is why we urge the BBC to ensure at least 50% of Strictly Blackpool Tickets are allocated to 'FY' residents. This policy would not only ensure there is fair representation but also deepen the bond between our community and the beloved show.
Sign this petition to ensure that Blackpool's residents have an equal chance to be a part of a tradition they hold dear. Join us in advocating for fairness and inclusion in Strictly's audience representation.
