Require Bannock County to add Virgil Larson to sex offender registry
The Issue
In the peaceful community of Bannock County, Idaho, a former leader at the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Virgil Larson, 47, is reportedly entering a plea agreement that would allow him to avoid being listed on the sex offender registry, despite the serious nature of his offenses.
This plea agreement is deeply troubling for many, as it seems Larson used his powerful and seemingly trustworthy position as a church leader, to gain access to children with intention of harming them. It sends a false narrative that in Idaho you can hurt our kids and get away with it, strangely at the same point in time when we choose to bring back the firing squad for cases exactly like this.
Larson pleads guilty to giving naked massages to children. Such actions pose a grave threat to the safety and well-being of the children in our community and undermine the sense of trust and security among the parents and families who call Bannock county home.
The sex offender registry is a crucial tool for protecting communities by monitoring individuals who have been convicted of sexual offenses. Adding Larson's name to this registry would ensure that our community is informed and vigilant, safeguarding our children against potential harm. Other individuals with similar offenses are required to register, ensuring victims and families are aware of their presence in the community.
Through raising awareness and galvanizing public support, this petition aims to press the prosecutorial authorities in Bannock County to reconsider their decision regarding Larson's case. The safety of our children and our community must take precedence over plea agreements.
We urge officials to prioritize the welfare of our residents by listing Virgil Larson on the Idaho sex offender registry, to prevent possible future abuses and to maintain transparency and trust within the community.
Please sign this petition and join us in demanding justice and safety for Bannock County's children and families.
