The Issue

As a 15-year-old citizen of Pennsylvania who has had experience helping Ukrainian children in need, I have spent countless hours observing how fear and conflict affect families. My goal through this petition is to raise awareness about the harm posed to millions of families by demanding that federal ICE agents demonstrate transparency, protect individual rights, and provide protection for every human, no matter their background.

While I am fortunate that my family has never been personally harmed by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, I have grown up in a world where it affects millions of people around me. Through co-founding Kids4Ukraine, an organization that raised thousands of dollars to help suffering Ukrainian children, I have directly learned how crisis and fear can affect people of all ages, races, religions, and backgrounds. No single person or family should have to experience the loss of an innocent loved one simply due to the country they are from.

The moment I realized that these tragic killings were not something I could simply see on the news, dismiss, and go on about my day was when I learned about the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston during early July 2026. Ronaldo Salgado, Lorenzo’s eldest son, described the way in which he learned about his father’s death—seeing a video on Facebook—and detailed how he recognized Lorenzo through his voice while he was crying for help. He explained how his father did not deserve to be reduced to a headline, as Ronaldo knew him as a passionate, hardworking, dedicated man, and highlighted how challenging it would be to lead a life without him when he was a pillar in the Salgado family.

I am starting this petition as a way to raise awareness about the pain and fear millions of people in the United States of America have to live with every day. Body cameras do not align with political parties, as they are only used to keep people safe. As a young American citizen, I firmly believe that if the majority of local police departments across the country require officers to wear body cameras, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents must be legally mandated to do the same. It is time for federal agents to take accountability for their actions as a way to protect each and every individual, whether they are American citizens or not.
