The Issue

As residents of the quiet, historic Orchard District in Bend, OR, we are deeply concerned about the proposed development at 635 NE Marshall Ave. The plan to construct 12 subdivided homes on a .3 acre lot with limited off-street parking poses significant safety concerns for our community. Our worries extend to issues of density, fire safety, snow removal, garbage removal and proximity to Bend Tech Academy (previously the Marshall School) and Juniper Elementary School.

The current designation as a Level 1 project fails to provide opportunity for public comment or input into this fundamental change in our neighborhood’s character and landscape. We believe that such a decision should involve those who will be most affected by this change.

We therefore request that the land development at 635 NE Marshall Ave be reclassified as a Level 2 project which will provide opportunity for public comment and dialogue. Our hope is that through this process we can ensure responsible development of the neighborhood that leaves its charm and character intact for new-coming residents.

We urge all residents of Orchard District and beyond who value community input in local developments to join us in this petition. Your signature can help protect our historic neighborhood from unchecked development while promoting responsible growth that respects everyone's needs and rights.
