The Issue
The Jain community holds Bhagwan Bahubali in deep reverence as a spiritual figure of great significance. However, it has come to our attention that the name of Bahubali is being used in GIFFY dishwash advertisements under the slogan "Dishwash ka Bahubali." This portrayal, while not intended to offend, is distressing for many members of our community.
Bhagwan Bahubali symbolizes spiritual triumph and the pursuit of Moksha—a state of liberation that is at the core of Jain beliefs. Associating such a revered figure with a commercial product is perceived as disrespectful by those who regard Bahubali with utmost devotion and reverence. It is vital to recognize the sentiments of religious communities and ensure that commercial campaigns do not inadvertently cause hurt or misunderstanding.
The Jain community appeals to Mr. Azim Premji, Founder and Chairman of Wipro, with utmost humility and respect, to reconsider the use of the Bahubali name in these advertisements. Such an action would not only alleviate the concerns of Jains but also help foster a more inclusive and respectful advertising environment. Your intervention could enhance goodwill and strengthen community relations substantially.
We acknowledge that this request is rooted not in criticism, but in a sincere desire for unity and cultural sensitivity. We believe in Wipro's ability to lead by example in promoting respect and understanding across diverse cultures and communities. By addressing this concern, you can demonstrate a commitment to being sensitive towards the values and beliefs of all people.
We hope that you will take this request into consideration and take prompt action to resolve the issue, thus reinforcing the respect for religious sentiments and enhancing Wipro’s image as a socially responsible organization.
