For years, Toastmasters International has been a beacon for individuals seeking to develop their public speaking and leadership skills. As a long-standing member and advocate of this organization, I've witnessed firsthand the incredible growth and transformation it can bring to its participants. However, recent trends show a troubling decline in both membership and club expansion. This issue hits particularly hard for those of us who are either retired or living on fixed incomes.

The dues increase is largely caused by a Pathways Educational program which is repetitive, outdated, impractical, and constantly changing to keep up with ever evolving educational requirements and expectations.

Toastmasters International announced an impending increase in membership dues, a decision that couldn't have come at a worse time. Economic uncertainty has touched all corners, and many members, like myself, find ourselves assessing finances critically. For individuals with limited financial flexibility, any additional expenses can deter continued participation in such programs, regardless of their importance.

The proposed timing of this dues increase threatens to widen the accessibility gap, alienating a significant portion of the membership that cannot keep up financially. It's crucial to understand that Toastmasters clubs are often more than just hobby groups; they are spaces of personal growth, empowerment, and community connection.

There are chapters across the globe where membership numbers are dwindling. This is not a reflection of diminished interest but a clear indication of financial distress among the members. For many, Toastmasters is a venture into self-improvement that is presently becoming financially unattainable.

By postponing the dues increase for at least two years, Toastmasters International can offer a sigh of relief to its current and potential members, ensuring that the benefits of the program remain accessible to all, especially during these challenging times. It’s a decision that aligns with the values of Toastmasters—nurturing and supporting personal development without financial barriers. Before a dues increase is implemented, please provide members with transparency regarding organizational expenditures.

Let us urge the leadership at Toastmasters International to prioritize the needs of its diverse and global membership during this economically uncertain period. By doing so, they can maintain the inclusivity and reach that have defined Toastmasters for decades.
