SUBJECT:   Request to Remove Adult-Oriented Performances from the Annual Park Ridge Pride Event on Public Property

We, the undersigned residents of Park Ridge, Illinois, support the right of all citizens to gather, but respectfully object to the inclusion of sexually oriented drag show performances as part of a public, family-focused Pride event intended for attendees of all ages.  Our concern includes the practice of children giving money directly to drag show performers during the performance.   This is an interaction that resembles conduct commonly associated with adult-entertainment venues we believe is inappropriate for a public event involving minors.  While we respect free expression, we urge event organizers and local government leaders to ensure that city hosted, publicly supported, and family-oriented events remain age-appropriate and welcoming to residents of all ages.
