Every community deserves leaders who exhibit integrity, dedication, and transparency, especially when they are entrusted with the well-being and safety of public spaces. However, at the Butterfield Park District, we are facing a critical situation where the current leadership fails to adhere to these essential values.

My concern, one shared by many community members, is deeply personal. Charles Menard, a member of the park district board, is the son of Lisa Saunderson, which presents a blatant conflict of interest. The presence of two family members on the same governing board challenges fairness, transparency, and responsible governance. Moreover, Charles Menard's unavailability due to his studies out of state further exacerbates the issue, leaving him disconnected from the effects and implications of his decisions in our community.

More troubling are the actions of Lisa Saunderson, who has reportedly exercised intimidation tactics against both the park district staff and residents. Employees who have voiced their concerns about her approach have faced direct threats, with some even fearing repercussions against their employment. Community members who have courageously attended board meetings to express their opinions have also been threatened, creating an atmosphere of fear and oppression rather than openness and collaboration.

The negligence in fulfilling the legal duties required by their positions, along with the creation of an unsafe and hostile working environment, demands immediate action. The integrity of the Butterfield Park District is at stake, and it is imperative for the welfare of our community that we take a stand against these inappropriate actions.

The resignation of Lisa Saunderson and Charles Menard from their positions is a necessary step toward restoring trust, fairness, and safety within our park district.
