I am reaching out to express my deep concern over the representation provided by Paul Stapleton, our current Night-Shift Union Steward. My confidence in Paul was severely shaken when he assured us that our lead exposure paperwork had been submitted to management. However, none of us had seen, reviewed, or signed those documents ourselves. This incident has left me, and many of my fellow union members, questioning how our health and safety issues are being managed and who is truly advocating for our well-being.

Union stewards are expected to be staunch advocates for their members, ensuring that workplace safety concerns are addressed, that the collective agreement is upheld fairly and consistently, and that effective communication occurs between the members and the union leadership. Unfortunately, it has become apparent that these responsibilities are not being met under Paul Stapleton’s stewardship. This lack of effective representation is undermining our trust and faith in our union representation, which, as night-shift workers, is critical to ensuring our rights and conditions are respected and prioritized.

Night-shift workers face unique challenges and rely heavily on effective representation to address specific needs such as workplace safety, equitable treatment, and clear communication. When these are not adequately addressed, it can directly impact our health, safety, and overall morale. We need a union steward who prioritizes transparency, ensures that all paperwork and safety protocols are visibly and accurately managed, and addresses our concerns promptly and effectively.

Data from studies highlight the increased health risks faced by night-shift workers, including lead exposure, sleep disorders, and increased work-related stress. With these heightened risks, it is imperative that our union steward takes our concerns seriously, provides clear and honest communication, and is responsive to our needs.

Therefore, we are calling for the removal of Paul Stapleton from his position as Night-Shift Union Steward. We believe a change in representation is essential to restoring confidence in our union.

We need someone who is committed, proactive, and transparent to ensure our voices are heard and our workplace safety is adequately handled.
