Request the principal at Waverly Park School to step down for the remainder of the year
The Issue
I am standing up to the persistent issue of bullying within the BSD, a problem that has long-term impacts on mental health and has persisted for too long without adequate action from school authorities. This petition is driven by a clear understanding that something needs to change not only at Waverly Park School but throughout Brandon School Division. The recent events, in particular, have exposed a systematic failure that requires immediate and effective intervention.
We have reached out to Brandon School Division prior to this petition with no response.
The Administration is responsible for ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students. Yet, there have been ongoing issues with bullying that have not been adequately addressed under their leadership. Students have continued to suffer, and incidents have gone unpunished, creating a hostile environment which is detrimental to student education and wellbeing.
With the recent concerns that have been brought to light, it is evident that a change could be beneficial in creating a fresh perspective and prioritizing student safety. The absence of strong leadership and imposition of consequences sets a dangerous precedent. We call for the principal to step down for the remainder of this school year. Additionally, it is crucial that the principal is not present at the upcoming Grade 8 graduation this week. Her presence should not cast a shadow over this important date for our children. This action would reflect sensitivity towards those who have suffered and demonstrate a commitment to addressing these serious issues.
Bullying can cause significant damage to students' self-esteem, academic success, and mental health, sometimes with lifelong ramifications. BSD needs to set a standard on zero tolerance towards bullying and instill confidence in parents, students, and staff that these issues are being taken seriously.
We are calling on the BSD to make a public announcement affirming this decision as a step towards resolution. This petition represents a community no longer willing to accept the status quo, demanding accountability and action where it is most needed.
