The issue

The Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, has the power to dissolve the Government or remove those seen as not acting in the constitutional principals. I would argue the wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh, attending pro-Palestinian protests, or inciting hate would be such acts that fail constitutional acts. Australians expect politicians to represent them, NOT engage in political games or recognise unrecognised States, that ultimately help to incite hate at home. If the then Governor-General Sir John Kerr removed Prime Minister Gough Whitlam in 1975 for failing to pass a bill, the current Governor-General should be able to call for a resignation of the PM or dismiss ministers who act against constitutional principles. Promoting anti-Semitism or removing a member of Parliament who wears garb or incites hate should fall under this authority as should dismissing a PM and the party that has failed the confidence of the Australian people by upholding it's values. The current Labor Government has demonstrated that it supports Palestine through protests by showing a lack of denouncing open support of Hamas at Pro-Palestinian protests across the country. However, it has been criticised for its lack of support for the Jewish community, which has requested support for the increased anti-Semitism in the wider community. This inconsistency raises concerns about politicians promoting Australian values. Instead of protests that may foster division, they should lead by example and advocate for the nation’s principles. This Government’s approach is lacking. It is imperative that the Governor-General exercises her Reserve powers to remove the Prime Minister and other politicians who misuse Parliamentary Privilege to promote their own political views, or actively attend protests. Vote and share if you believe this to be true.
