Request the City Of Vaughan to open a turf soccer field in Matthew Park
The Issue
Playing soccer has always been more than just a sport for me and many residents of Vaughan. It's a community-building exercise, a way to stay healthy, and an opportunity for children and adults alike to come together over a shared love for the game. However, the current grass field at Matthew Park has become difficult to maintain and less usable throughout the year due to weather and wear.
I remember vividly the time when my son first kicked a ball on that very field. It was a moment full of excitement and potential, but soon cut short as the rainy months made the field uneven and muddy, turning it into a hazard rather than a playground. Many other parents have shared similar concerns, and our sports league has had to cancel numerous events due to the field's conditions.
A turf soccer field would offer the residents of Vaughan a reliable, safe, and high-quality surface that could withstand more extensive use and varied weather conditions. Turf fields provide consistent playing conditions; they require less maintenance and are not prone to the quick wear and tear that happens with natural grass. This would mean more practice sessions, less cancelled leagues, and an overall boost in participation for soccer teams throughout the region.
The economic benefits are evident too. With a turf field, we could host tournaments and events that draw visitors and encourage local business. Schools and community programs would find a home in Matthew Park for their sporting activities all year round, regardless of weather.
We are calling on the City of Vaughan to acknowledge the needs of their community by investing in this critical upgrade to our sports facilities. By doing so, we’re investing in our children, our community health, and the local economy.
Join us in this effort to turn dreams into reality for countless young athletes and community members. Sign the petition today to request a turf soccer field at Matthew Park in Vaughan. Together, we can transform our community hub into a safe and vibrant space for everyone.
