The issue

Turkish pop royalty, Sezen Aksu is the original composure of the global smash Şımarık. The song was launched in 1997, sung by Turkish artist Tarkan, and translated to 27+ languages across the globe.

This song, with its catchy melody became a global sensation, transcending language barriers and embodying the spirit of joy and playfulness. It was a celebration of artistry and creativity that spread happiness.

In 2002 it was used by Holly Vallance in her song “Kiss Kiss” in the 2002 release of the English version of the song.

The spirit of the song “Şımarık" is now under threat from being tainted by a new iteration titled "Kiss Kiss My Ass," performed by Holly Valance.

This new version has messages of hate; including the below lyrics;

“MWAH You will respect my pronouns / Not all ladies have ovaries, some have a penis / They say that I’m a he but I’m a she / Coz I gotta V and not a D.

“And I don’t care what people say / I’ll never be a him, a them or they / Cause I’m real biological woman / A real biological woman.

“Fave song – from the river to the sea / No job but I bleed LGBT … Q+, ya bigot / Cause I’m a real diabolic lefty.”

The song was released to promote Pauline Hanson’s film A Super Progressive Movie. (again, usage and copyright approvals for the use of the song are unknown).

We appeal to Sezen Aksu to not allow her song to be used to spread animosity, hate and anti-LGBTQIA+ messages and much more. It's disappointing to witness a song that was once representative of positivity and global unity being used to spread messages of malice and divisiveness.

Sezen Aksu's influence in the world of music extends far and wide. As someone whose creations have touched the lives of millions, she holds the power to protect the integrity of her work. It is crucial that artists are mindful of how their work is interpreted and used by others, particularly when it could have negative implications on audiences worldwide.

This petition urges Sezen Aksu to block Holly Vallance’s use of "Şımarık" for "Kiss Kiss My Ass".

By taking action, we stop Holly Vallance and Pauline Hanson spreading their messages of hate and preserve the original joy and unity the song embodies, preventing a beloved piece of music history from being associated with negativity.

Please join us in appealing to Sezen Aksu to maintain the sanctity of her creation and to prevent its misuse. Sign this petition to let your voice be heard.
