For those of us in general aviation, Starlink has been nothing short of a revolution. As a general aviation pilot, having Starlink service on board has dramatically enhanced my flying experience, improving not only my situational awareness but also my ability to access up-to-date weather and airport safety information while airborne. These capabilities are critical to ensuring the safety and efficiency of our flights, and allow us to maintain communication with others while traveling, providing peace of mind to both pilots and our loved ones.

However, Starlink has recently made the disappointing decision to raise the cost of the plans serving general aviation by 5 times, while providing less than half of the data of the previous plans simply based on the speed that our planes travel.  Many of us are not commercial operations nor traveling near the speeds that these plans are targeting.

Starlink's roaming plans provided pilots with continuous internet access during flights, which is not just a luxury but a necessity for modern aviation safety and operational efficiency. The ability to receive real-time weather updates and airport information is instrumental in making informed flight decisions and handling in-flight adjustments. Moreover, the ability to communicate during flights, whether for professional coordination or personal comfort, reflects the evolving needs of 21st-century aviation.

Reinstating these plans would reaffirm Starlink's commitment to innovation and connectivity in aviation. By bringing back these services, Starlink would not only enhance safety and operational effectiveness but also signify the brand's dedication to supporting diverse sectors and the profession of aviation itself.

We urge Starlink to reconsider their decision and reinstate the roaming plans with a speed that accommodates general aviation and that have become a lifeline for so many pilots navigating the skies. By doing so, they would continue to enhance the safety and effectiveness of aviation operations and support pilots who rely on this crucial technology in the air.
