The Issue

Directly in front of my home, the road is dangerously tore up from years of simply patching problems. The continuous wear and tear have not only led to an unsightly appearance but have created hazardous conditions for both vehicles and pedestrians alike. Every day, I watch as cars swerve to avoid uneven surfaces, putting themselves and others in danger. This issue is not just an inconvenience; it's a matter of safety for everyone who lives here or passes through our neighborhood.

Our neighborhood streets have not received a full resurfacing in over two decades. According to a 2019 report by the American Society of Civil Engineers, about 43% of America's public roadways are in poor or mediocre condition, and unfortunately, this is evident right outside our doors. The Band-Aid solutions that have been applied over the years only provide temporary relief and ultimately exacerbate the problem, leading to increased repair costs and more severe deterioration.

Re-paving the roads in our neighborhood will not only enhance our community's safety but will also improve the overall quality of life for residents. Well-maintained roads decrease vehicle maintenance costs, increase property values, and contribute to a healthier and more appealing living environment.

This issue affects each of us—homeowners, tenants, and local businesses alike. By addressing this concern, we can foster a stronger, more united community prioritizing the well-being and safety of its members.

We urge the local government, VDOT, the county to take immediate action and allocate the necessary resources to fully re-pave our neighborhood. By doing so, we can ensure a safer environment for everyone and a brighter future for our community.

Please join me in calling for a full re-paving of our neighborhood streets to create a safe, beautiful, and thriving environment for all. Sign this petition to demand change.
