However, the current speed limit remains at 45 MPH, which may no longer be appropriate given the changes in road use.

There are no designated crosswalks along this stretch, increasing the risk for non-motorized users. Lowering the speed limit to 35 MPH could improve safety for all road users. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a 2018 study, similar speed reductions have been shown to decrease injury crashes by approximately 29%.

We urge the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to consider this change in response to current traffic patterns and community needs.
