The Issue

The  recent Texas Legislature ban on personal devices has left students in a difficult position, especially when many other districts like Fort Bend ISD, Katy ISD, Cy Fair ISD and Klein ISD have already taken the initiative to provide take-home laptops to their students. The LCISD plans to address this issue in a future bond, but our children simply cannot afford to wait.

Currently, the few laptops available are outdated and barely functioning, which hinders the educational progress of our students. Proposed BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policies have faced obstacles due to legal and security concerns, amplifying the urgency of this issue. It is imperative that the LCISD Board takes immediate action to ensure every high school student has the necessary tools to succeed.

The educational needs of our students cannot be put on hold. We urge the LCISD Board to take immediate steps to:

1. Repair and update existing laptops so they are fully functional.
2. Ensure that laptops are available to any high school student who needs one without waiting for the bond election.

By addressing these critical needs, the LCISD Board will empower students, support teachers, and ensure that no child falls behind because of outdated or unavailable technology. This move will align LCISD with neighboring districts that have already prioritized student access to technology.

This petition is a call to action for all parents, teachers, and community members who believe our students deserve better. Let’s ensure that no student in LCISD has to struggle without the necessary resources to succeed in their education. Please join me in emailing the LCISD Board and signing this petition to demand immediate action for providing working laptops to all students in need.
