The Issue

The recent remarks by the US President regarding the valiant efforts and sacrifices made by the UK Armed Forces in Afghanistan have been deeply concerning and hurtful. These comments undermine the dedication and valour displayed by countless personnel who have worked tirelessly to bring stability and peace to a nation in dire need, as well as the strategic partnership between our two countries. It's crucial that such remarks do not go unchallenged and that the dignity and honour of our nation and its armed forces are upheld.

In light of this, we call upon His Majesty the King, as the Commander in Chief of the UK's Armed Forces, to take a principled stand against this affront by cancelling any planned visit to the United States of America. Such a decision would send a strong message of support and respect for our servicemen and women, as well as assert the UK's position on the international stage that any denigration of our forces will not be tolerated.

The Royal Family, historically and presently, plays an influential role in embodying the values and strength of the United Kingdom. By cancelling this visit, His Majesty would not only demonstrate solidarity with our forces but also reaffirm the long-standing ties of mutual respect that should always characterise US-UK relations.

This act would not mean the end of dialogue or diplomacy but serve as a necessary reminder of the principles and respect that underlie our relationship. With the voices of the British public behind this request, we urge His Majesty the King to reconsider any planned engagements in the US as a stand against disparagement of British forces.

We invite all those who value the honour of our forces and the integrity of our international relationships to sign this petition and show their support for our brave men and women serving abroad.
