Request ITV to change Coronation Street's leadership
The Issue
Coronation Street has been a beloved pillar of British television for over 65 years. For me, like many others, it's not just a TV show; it's a cultural legacy, a consistent part of our weekly routine, offering comfort and familiarity through life’s ups and downs. Yet, lately, I've been concerned about the show's direction under its current leadership. This isn't just my observation—a significant number of fans feel the same way: that Coronation Street is losing its essence and entertainment value. It’s now filled with hospitals, prisons and police stations in almost every episode!
The unique charm that once captured the hearts of viewers appears to be dwindling, and the intricate storytelling, vibrant characters, and relatable plots we love are becoming less engaging and more formulaic. This shift isn't just a natural evolution of TV content but points towards leadership decisions that are steering the show into a less favorable light, like killing off Debbie Webster, a much loved character when the actress wanted to spend the rest of her career working on the show.
Coronation Street deserves leaders who understand its heritage, cherish its loyal fanbase, and have a creative vision that can rejuvenate this treasured program. We believe that a change in leadership could infuse new energy and respect into the show's long-standing tradition.
We call on ITV to consider appointing a leadership team with fresh perspectives and a deep appreciation for what makes Coronation Street a national treasure.
Current producer Kate Brooks and executive producer Iain MacLeod are killing a much loved nearly 66 year old show.
Join me in petitioning ITV to make these vital changes, including the sacking of the current producers, by signing this petition.
