Request Indianapolis to Release 38th Street Speed Study Data

The Issue

My name is Ryan Breman and I am a 5th grader at Center for Inquiry School 70. For my IB exhibition project, I chose to address speeding on 38th Street.

As a resident of Indianapolis, I am deeply concerned about the safety of pedestrians in our neighborhood, especially on 38th street. The road is designed like a highway and people are always speeding on it. It is 7 lanes wide in many places. Cars drag race and often run red lights, making it unsafe for me and the children in our community to walk on the sidewalk or cross the street.

Our neighborhood is vibrant with parks, cafes and Red Line bus stops that should be easily accessible without fear. However, the current design of 38th street discourages us from walking due to its inherent dangers. The timing of green lights encourages speeding rather than slowing down traffic flow. Moreover, sidewalks are too narrow for many pedestrians and there's no space for bikes.

We believe that releasing data from the speed study conducted on 38th street will shed light on these issues and help us advocate for necessary changes to improve pedestrian safety.

Therefore, we request that city officials release this critical information as soon as possible so we can work together towards creating safer streets for everyone in our neighborhood.

Please sign this petition if you support transparency from our city officials regarding traffic studies conducted in residential areas like ours – your signature could make a difference in ensuring safer roads for all residents!
