Request immediate evaluation of stormwater drainage at Line Creek in KCMO 64151
The Issue
I'm reaching out on behalf of Giddy-Up Riders of Kansas City, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated to empowering youth, families, and our community through horsemanship, education, and outreach. Our mission has been profoundly impacted by the ongoing stormwater drainage issues near Line Creek, Kansas City, Missouri.
Just recently, severe flooding wreaked havoc on our ranch. It resulted in substantial property damage, erosion, and, most heartbreakingly, the loss of Storm, a cherished horse who was not only an integral part of our programs but also our family. Storm's tragic passing has galvanized us to demand urgent action, ensuring no other family or organization has to face such loss.
This petition is born out of frustration due to previous, unheeded requests for storm drain maintenance, notably including Work Order #3209119. For too long, these issues have been ignored, leading to accumulating damages and increased safety concerns for the local community.
Line Creek's ongoing flooding problems necessitate an immediate evaluation of the stormwater drainage systems in our area. It's vital that the authorities take charge in not just addressing the immediate concerns but also in developing long-term, sustainable solutions. This includes investment in infrastructure improvements, regular maintenance schedules, and emergency response plans for severe weather conditions.
Moreover, engaging with the local community is crucial. We urge the city leaders to open channels for communication, ensuring that residents' concerns and suggestions are heard and incorporated into future planning. This collaborative approach can pave the way for innovative solutions that benefit everyone.
We appeal to the Kansas City administration and community members to come together, address the current inadequacies, and work towards a safer environment for all residents, their properties, and our animal counterparts. Preserving our land and facilities is paramount—not only for us but the generations that will follow.
Together, let's drive change and prevent further tragedies. Please sign this petition and stand with us in demanding effective action to resolve the stormwater drainage and flooding issues in Kansas City.
