Request Hertsmere Council to improve waste collection services

The Issue

I recently moved to Radlett from another borough in London, where our local council collected the waste bins weekly and with a reduced council tax compared to Hertsmere. Now, as a resident here, with a family of four members and a pet, managing household waste has become a significant challenge. Our house generates a substantial amount of waste due to our family's needs and the prevalence of packaging in everyday products. Moreover, when we have guests, the waste accumulates even faster. Only having one bin and a fortnightly collection schedule is inadequate for households of our size.

In the previous borough, we never faced the inconvenience of overflowing bins or having to deal with excess waste lingering for two weeks. The efficient waste management routine enabled us to maintain a clean and comfortable home environment. I believe many families in larger households across Hertsmere face similar challenges and would greatly benefit from more frequent waste collections.

Hertsmere Council’s current waste collection policy does not adequately cater to the needs of larger households. It leads to households struggling with hygiene, space issues, and in some cases, environmental concerns due to improper waste storage.

I am urging Hertsmere Council to either provide weekly waste bin collections or allow those of us with larger households starting at four members to have a second waste bin. This adjustment would help ensure that families can maintain a clean and pleasant living space and reduce potential health risks and environmental impact.

Many councils across the UK have already implemented similar measures, recognizing the varying needs of community members. Hertsmere Council has the opportunity to set a precedent for prioritizing the diverse needs of its residents while upholding the community’s cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

Please sign this petition to request Hertsmere Council to update its waste management policy. By doing this, we can encourage them to consider the distinct needs of all household sizes, fostering a healthier and cleaner community for everyone.
