Request for Traffic Management in Willowdale, Bayview North York Area

Subject: Request for Traffic Management Improvements in Willowdale and Bayview Areas During School and Office Hours

Dear Willowdale and Bayview Municipal Authorities, North York

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing as a concerned resident of the North York community to bring to your attention the significant traffic challenges in the Willowdale and Bayview areas, particularly during school drop-off and office hours.

Currently, the traffic congestion during these peak times has become a major inconvenience for parents and commuters alike. A simple school drop-off or commute to the office, which should ideally take a few minutes, now takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. This not only affects our daily schedules but also contributes to increased pollution, driver frustration, and the risk of accidents in high-traffic areas.

Several specific issues exacerbate this situation:

Lack of one-way streets:  The absence of one-way roads, especially near schools and major intersections, results in traffic bottlenecks as vehicles attempt to move in both directions, causing delays.

Inadequate left-turn signal time: The time allocated for left-turn signals at key intersections is insufficient, leading to traffic build-up and long wait times

Limited traffic management during peak hours: There appears to be a lack of sufficient traffic control measures during these critical hours, which could otherwise help alleviate congestion.

We kindly request the following actions to be taken into consideration:
1. Introducing more **one-way streets** near school zones and busy intersections to improve traffic flow and safety.
2. Extending the duration of **left-turn signals** at key intersections example Empress and Citation / Empress and Doris Ave to allow more cars to pass through efficiently.
3. Increasing the presence of **traffic management personnel** during peak hours to help monitor and guide traffic flow.
4. Exploring additional long-term solutions, such as **synchronized traffic lights** and better public transportation options, to ease congestion in the area.

These improvements would not only benefit parents and commuters but also create a safer, more efficient environment for the entire community. We understand that implementing these changes may take time and resources, but we believe they are necessary to address the growing traffic concerns in our neighborhood.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We trust that the municipality will look into this matter with the urgency it requires.

Sincerely,
Willowdale Resident
