We, the undersigned students and parents, bring to your attention our concerns regarding the recent changes in school timings. While we acknowledge the school's commitment to aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by revising school hours, we believe the new schedule poses several challenges that warrant reconsideration.
Firstly, the extended school hours considerably increase daily commutes, which already pose a significant challenge due to Mumbai's dense traffic conditions. This extension leaves students with reduced time for rest, extracurricular activities, and family engagements, which are equally crucial for holistic development. Notably, there have been concerns from working parents about their ability to manage work-life balance under the new timings.
Moreover, the abrupt change disrupts the stable routine students have adapted to, impacting their mental well-being and academic performance. Studies indicate that consistency in daily schedules is vital for students, directly affecting concentration, stress levels, and overall performance. It is essential to consider the longstanding routines that have supported the academic success of students over the years.
This sudden change will affect the energy levels and lead to more fatigue and and distraction because of the longer hours which students are not used to.
We propose that the school engage with the student and parent community to explore alternative solutions that meet the NEP guidelines without compromising the welfare of students and their families. Options could include partial modification of timings or phased implementation, allowing families to adjust gradually.
