The Issue

I am writing to demand immediate action for wrongful practices being implemented at Woodlawn High School, especially those administered by our new principal. Recently, a fellow student was unjustly suspended for reacting to severe bullying in the classroom. After enduring repeated mockery and harassment, including vile comments about her partial deafness and family, she defended herself. Rather than addressing the abusive behavior, our principal decided to suspend her for 7 days on the first day of school, compounding the injustice and victim-blaming.

The situation does not end here. This incident highlights a pattern of abusive authority and discriminatory practices exercised by the principal at our beloved school. His evident and  misuse of power are creating an unsafe, hostile learning environment. We cannot stand by while those who are supposed to protect and nurture our education instead perpetuate cruelty and injustice.

Moreover, in a shocking display of control, he has imposed restrictions that make it nearly impossible for students to manage basic needs. Bathrooms are kept locked during class times, with only a five-minute window between classes offered to use these facilities and move across the school campus. Such policies are inconsiderate, and impractical, and undermine the dignity of students. When it’s over 1500 kids in a school we can’t all use the bathroom in 5 minutes & make it to class. Also when we do have the opportunity to use the bathroom it’s locked the first & last 5 minutes of lunch, which he decided to shorten our lunch to 25 minutes. Majority of the students are complaining, and saying how they want to transfer schools because our new rules are making it feel like a prison instead of a safe space.

We urge the authorities to take decisive steps to rectify these issues. The school district must conduct an unbiased investigation into the principal's conduct and implement an immediate re-evaluation of current policies regarding student rights and well-being. Ensuring fair treatment for all students and preventing similar episodes in the future must be the priority.

This is a crucial moment for the Woodlawn High School community to unite and advocate for justice and equity in our school. Your support can help bring about necessary changes to safeguard students' welfare and ensure no one else suffers unjustly like my classmate.

Please sign this petition to demand a fair investigation and the instatement of just policies at Woodlawn High School. Together, we can create an environment where every student feels safe, respected, and heard.
