Request for city of London to make Adelaide & Lorne crosswalk safe for students

The Issue

When Lorne Ave PS was closed, young students were displaced, forcing them to cross Adelaide St at Lorne Ave to get to school. The crosswalk was not upgraded at that time to increase safety for students, and years of correspondence between city representatives and concerned parents have resulted in zero safety improvements. There are no signs indicating to motorists that this location is a pedestrian crosswalk or a school route used daily by students.

On the second-last day of school last year, a student was struck by a city bus at this location. The driver did not stop for the red light or crossing guard, and was driving above the speed limit. The concerned parents of Lord Roberts PS deserve to know that their children will arrive at school, and home from school safely. We need to know that no more students will be put in harm's way on their daily commute.

It is imperative that the decades-old crosswalk infrastructure be replaced, and clear signs indicating that this is a pedestrian crossing and school route be put in place. The city must take action done immediately, so students can safely commute to school without incident.
