The Issue

As a Congolese citizen, I've seen firsthand the growing fear and uncertainty among my fellow citizens living in South Africa. They face daily safety concerns and numerous barriers simply due to their status as foreign nationals. Many wish to return safely to their home country but find themselves hindered by a lack of necessary travel documents and the financial means to afford such a journey. This dire situation cannot be ignored any longer.

The Congolese government holds responsibility to support its citizens during such challenging times. It is vital for the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to take immediate action by establishing a voluntary repatriation program. This program should not only aim to help returnees but should also prioritize providing emergency travel documents to facilitate their safe passage home.

Furthermore, financial hardship is a significant barrier preventing many Congolese from returning home. As such, it is equally important that our government coordinates transportation assistance to ensure that vulnerable citizens have the means to return safely. This is not just a matter of convenience; it is essential for the dignity, safety, and human rights of those affected.

The ongoing tensions in South Africa affecting foreign nationals demand a swift and compassionate response. No one should live in fear or uncertainty regarding their safety. By taking these steps, the Congolese government would demonstrate a commitment to protecting its citizens and acknowledging their struggles abroad.

I urge all Congolese citizens, as well as concerned individuals globally, to support this call for change. Let us stand together to ensure that every Congolese citizen has the right to return home safely if they choose to do so. Please sign this petition to demand action from the Congolese government. Together, we can make a difference.
