Request dismissal of unjust citation in Sumrall

Request dismissal of unjust citation in Sumrall
The Issue
My name is Elaine VanSleet, Founder and Director of Hoppienheimer Rabbit Rescue & Education, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated exclusively to the welfare, rescue, and education of domesticated rabbits in South Mississippi. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, neglected, or surrendered rabbits, while also educating the public and local authorities about proper care, lawful containment, and responsible ownership.
Recently, our efforts to protect and care for vulnerable animals have been hindered by an unexpected citation issued by local authorities in the City of Sumrall, Mississippi. This citation appears to contradict the very purpose of rescue work and was issued following a formal written complaint and request for the rabbit to be taken into custody for its immediate safety and welfare.
We operate fully within the guidelines and laws applicable to animal rescue organizations in our state, and we uphold high standards of animal care, safety, and accountability.
This citation not only threatens Hoppienheimer Rabbit Rescue & Education’s ability to continue its mission, but it also sets a troubling precedent for other specialized rescues in our region. If legitimate rescue efforts are penalized, countless animals could suffer due to fear of intervention or misunderstandings about rescue work.
We respectfully ask the local authorities in Sumrall to review and reconsider this citation with transparency and fairness. We urge them to recognize the value of rescue organizations and the vital role they play in community welfare and humane education.
We invite you to stand with us by signing this petition. Your support shows that our community values compassion, cooperation, and the protection of animals in need. Together, we can ensure that Hoppienheimer Rabbit Rescue & Education continues its important work without unjust obstacles.
Please sign and share this petition to help protect the ability of animal rescues to operate safely and responsibly in our community.
