Request Campbelltown Council allow CTG to retain their access to the Town Hall Theatre
The issue
Joining a community theatre group with my family allowed us to dive into the world of performance art and share our passion with the community. For 45 years, we've poured our energy and resources into making the Town Hall Theatre in Campbelltown a thriving artistic hub accessible to so many schools, groups and individuals in the Macarthur region all wanting to create and present their work. This venue not only serves our group but has become a cornerstone for countless others seeking to experience and contribute to the arts. This unique facility has provided a wealth of programs, enriching lives far beyond the theatre walls. initiated by CTG with support from Council and Government Grants in 1980.
However, we've been hit with a distressing challenge. From March 31st, 2025, Campbelltown City Council changed the conditions under which our group operates at the Town Hall Theatre on Queen Street. This change has essentially blocked all previous unvetted and non chargeable access to the venue for a variety of activities during times other than our booked performance seasons. Such access is crucial for our ongoing commitment to community arts and outreach initiatives. We are are permitted to store asset but can only access them via appointment. Any use of the venue is charged including rehearsals, creating sets/props/costumes, youth group, workshops and student placements
For CTG to continue providing significant cultural and artistic contributions without a significant financial burden that have instantaneously come with these additional restrictions and charges is. impossible The community depends on the Town Hall Theatre not just for entertainment but for educational programs, workshops, and as a creative outlet for our diverse community.
We call on Campbelltown City Council to honour the existing conditions that have allowed the Campbelltown Theatre Group Inc. to flourish in collaboration with other community members. It is imperative that the Council recognises the artistic value we bring, as well as the historical and extensive financial input provided over a 45 year period and continues to support the arts in Macarthur.
Help us keep the doors of the Town Hall Theatre open for all to enjoy without restriction. Sign this petition to urge the Campbelltown City Council to sustain the current terms of operation, ensuring that everyone in our community continues to benefit from this vital cultural institution.
