Request Birdville ISD to continue supporting the gymnastics program
The Issue
My son is a gymnast. He CHOSE to go to Haltom Middle School because he wanted to do gymnastics for his school. Like many other Middle School gymnasts, he is trying to find his niche, a place to fit in, and be himself. He and his fellow gymnasts have committed just as much time crafting their skills as any other athletes. While anyone can throw or dribble a ball, not everyone can do gymnastics. That's what makes it special and what makes the gymnastics program essential for these young athletes.
Birdville Independent School District (ISD) currently offers a gymnastics program for students in grades 7 through 12. This program not only promotes physical fitness, but also boosts self-confidence, discipline, and teamwork among participants. These are skills that can significantly benefit students, both academically and socially, fostering their growth into well-rounded individuals.
However, there has been talk of possibly discontinuing this program due to budget cuts and reallocation of resources. It is imperative that we recognize the unique value that gymnastics brings to these students and preserve this opportunity for current and future students.
Gymnastics is not merely a sport; it is a passion and a lifeline for many students who may not resonate with traditional sports. It offers a platform for students to express themselves, build friendships, and develop resilience. Dismantling it would mean taking away a safe haven where they can express themselves and find joy.
We kindly urge Birdville ISD to reconsider any plans to cut this program and instead, invest in its continuation and expansion. Let’s provide our children with the breadth of options to explore their interests and excel in diverse areas that go beyond the traditional.
Join us in this effort to ensure that the gymnastics program remains a valuable part of the Birdville ISD athletic offerings by signing this petition. Your support can make a difference in maintaining a program that is essential to student athletes who choose a different path. Sign to urge Birdville ISD to keep this program alive and thriving for our community's youth.
